About — the manifesto
MLZen is a publication about machine intelligence, written at human speed. Every week the field produces more papers, models, and launches than anyone can absorb. We don't try. We wait, we read, we build, and then we write about the small number of things that still matter once the noise has passed.
The name is the contradiction we care about. Machine learning is restless: gradients, benchmarks, releases at 2 a.m. Zen is the opposite discipline — attention without grasping. Good engineering lives in the overlap. The best systems we've seen were built by people who could sit still inside a fast-moving field.
There is no interactive AI on this site. No chatbot in the corner, no autogenerated summaries. Just essays — on models, agents, retrieval, infrastructure, and the philosophy of building things that appear to think.
The circle on the homepage is an ensō, drawn by a particle system instead of a brush. In Zen practice you draw it in one stroke and accept the result. We retrained ours until it looked effortless, which is either a joke or the whole point.
